DETAILS
The San Francisco International Piano Festival celebrates J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier Book I (1722) in an evening of musical conversation with Bach luminaries and contemporary composers who find inspiration in his music. Dr. Sharon Mann brings a lifetime of experience to the performance and teaching of Bach, and the festival is honored to welcome her for this special event. Rachel Breen, who will be featured in her own solo recital (August 21) joins us to perform selected preludes and fugues and offer her own insights as an interpreter. The second half of the evening will feature the world premiere of Kurt Erickson’s 17:22 written in celebration of this important anniversary of the Well-Tempered Clavier. Erickson’s work takes the C Major Prelude and Fugue as its point of departure and integrates the influence of Chick Corea and improvisation to create a work that reflects both structure and spontaneity. Join us as we celebrate the 5th anniversary of the piano festival alongside a once in a lifetime anniversary of the Well-Tempered Clavier!
